Kathmandu is the capital city of Nepal situated at the longitude 85.3240° E and the latitude 27.7172° N. The two adjacent cities Lalitpur and Bhaktapur are integral to Kathmandu in view of tourism, economy and cultural heritage. Kathmandu valley is surrounded by mountains and the city stands at an elevation of 1,400 meters (approx.) in the bowl-shaped valley in central Nepal. It is a city of inexhaustible historic artistic and cultural interest. Several beautiful and interesting villages and towns surrounding the valley offer ideal destinations for hiking. The dazzling Himalayan peaks are visible from several points on the mountains around the valley. One can also find mountain flights in the morning to enjoy the panorama of snow covered Himalayas from very near. A large number of Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims from all over the world visit the religious and holy places like: Pashupatinath temple, Swayambhunath stupa, Boudhanath stupa, Budhanilkantha temple etc and other countless temples and historical places. Kathmandu connects other touristic places like Pokhara (Scenic), Chitwan (National Park) and Lumbini (The birth place of Lord Buddha) by land and air.
The Nepal Mathematical Society (NMS) [www.nms.org.np], a non-profit organization was established in 1979 in Nepal with the purpose to create a network of mathematicians throughout Nepal and outside, for promoting mathematical research and education. NMS also promotes the professional ethics, creates opportunities for mathematicians, and advocates for their welfare. NMS has affiliations with various national and international networks such as AMS, IMU, SEAMS, Silkroad Mathematics Center, Beijing, China, and has recently become a member society of The Indian Mathematics Consortium (TIMC), India.

Central Department of Mathematics (CDM) [www.cdmathtu.edu.np], the oldest department in the history of science education at Tribhuvan University (TU) in Nepal, was established on September 20, 1959. It mainly conducts graduate (MSc) and post-graduate (MPhil and PhD) programs and has been engaging itself to academic and research activities.
